If someone is in "propria persona" (also known as pro per), it means they are representing themselves in court without the assistance of legal counsel. Propria persona is Latin "for one's self."
Because they are acting without legal counsel, courts often give them great leeway when they make mistakes, miss deadlines and file improper motions. It often causes a great deal of grief for the opposing party's legal counsel.
Someone who repeatedly files unmeritorious lawsuits in pro per can be deemed a
vexatious litigant by a court an restricted from filing future actions.
