Long-Term Committees. Unlike
ad hoc committees that perform a single task and then cease to exist, standing committees have a continued existence because their assigned task is ongoing over the term of the
board. Examples are the finance committee and welcoming committee. Although its task may be ongoing, most standing committees may be
dissolved at any time by the board.
Permanent Standing Committees. The second kind of standing committee exists independently of the board because it is established by the CC&Rs or bylaws. This kind of committee cannot be
abolished by the board. However, unless the governing documents provide otherwise, its members can be replaced at will by the board. The most common example is the
Architectural Committee.
