Under the California Fair Employment and Housing Act ("FEHA"), employers with five or more employees are prohibited from doing any of the following:
1. Refusing to hire or employ any person because of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status, or sex.
2. Refusing employment or discharging any person from employment because of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status, or sex.
3. Discriminating against any person in compensation or conditions of employment because of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status, or sex.
4. Refusing to hire or employ, or to discharge, dismiss, reduce, suspend, or demote, any individual who is at least 40 years old based on age.
5. Harassing an employee or applicant for employment because of race, religious creed, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, sex, or age.
6. Retaliating against any person for opposing any practice forbidden or made unlawful by the FEHA or for testifying or otherwise participating in proceedings protecting such right.
