The Americans with Disabilities Act is a federal law giving civil rights protection to persons with defined disabilities, similar to protections based on race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. It applies to "public accommodations," which may include homeowners association facilities that are open to the public, such as golf courses, restaurants; swimming pools; or any other common area facility open to the general public.
