A "Maintenance Assessment District" (MAD) is a mechanism by which property owners can vote to assess themselves to pay and receive city services beyond what the city normally provides.
MADs also go under the names of Landscape Maintenance Districts (LMDs), Lighting and Landscape Maintenance Districts (LLMDs), Enhanced Maintenance Assessment Districts (EMADs), or Community Benefit Districts (CBDs).
