PRIVATE FUNDS FOR COMMON AREAS

QUESTION: If a committee wants to purchase a new item for the common areas, can we have a fund raiser or can the purchase only be done with association monies?

ANSWER: You can use private funds for common area improvements but you still need board approval for the improvement. If an owner wants to donate a painting of Elvis on black velvet to be hung in the building's main lobby, the board can, but is not obligated to, accept the donation.
