PRIMA FACIE

Prima facie (pri' ma fa' sha)Latin for "on its face." It refers to evidence that would, if uncontested, establish a fact or raise a presumption of a fact.

For example, if the board deliberated and voted on a matter and the decision is recorded in the minutes, a court will accept the minutes as proof the vote occurred as recorded. Those contesting the minutes would have the burden of proving the vote did not occur or was different from what was recorded.
