In 2008, Senate Bill 1137 amended, added and/or repealed provisions in Civil Code §§2923.5, 29236, 2924.8, 2929.3 and Code Civ. Proc. §1161(b) to require the owners of vacant properties (usually bank foreclosures) to maintain the property or face penalties up to $1,000 per day.
Unless extended, this requirement expires January 1, 2013.
