This class is designed for all homeowner volunteers (whether novice or experienced) to learn the fundamentals necessary to serve your communities.

9-23-22. Partner Laurie Poole joined additional industry experts to present “Taming the Trolls” as part of CAI-San Diego’s ongoing education events, held at the Handlery Hotel San Diego, which provided the tools necessary to diffuse harassment in community associations.

8-19-22. Karen St. Onge hosted the KAHOOT! for LOOT, where CAI-CLAC supporters from all over the Bay Area and Central Valley competed against each other to raise funds for CLAC, win prizes, and bragging rights!

8-19-22. Congratulations to Partner Melissa Ward on her admission into CAI's College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL)! Fewer than 175 attorneys nationwide can distinguish themselves as CCAL fellows. Melissa earned this national recognition due to her outstanding leadership and commitment to the advancement of the legal principles and practical tools necessary for community associations to thrive.

8-15-22. Managing Partner Adrian Adams has been appointed as President of CAI’s Foundation For Community Association Research (FCAR) for the 2022-2023 year. Established in 1975, the Foundation is the leading research affiliate of Community Associations Institute (CAI), supporting community association stakeholders to address specific challenges and prepare for emerging issues. The Foundation publishes best practices reports on critical topics including governance, finance, and strategic planning, provides research scholarships for graduate students, and provides historical research and data on common interest communities found in The Community Association Fact Book and biennial Homeowner Satisfaction Survey. Having Adrian take the helm of this prestigious organization is quite an honor. You can read more about it here.

8-11-22. Attorney Karen St. Onge and Laura Ravazza presented - Community Conversation: The Rulemaking Process, Investigations, Hearings and Enforcement hosted by Echo.

8-4-22. Partner Laurie Poole joined a panel with Jeff Beaumont, Jon Epsten, and Sandra Gottlieb for The Management Trust’s So Cal Seminar. The panel was moderated by Dirk Petchul and explored current hot topics facing The Management Trust’s community managers.

7-20-22. Adrian Adams joined panelists Jeff Beaumont, Sandra Gottlieb, and Matt Ober at a luncheon for the Los Angeles Chapter of CAI. The panel spoke on a variety of current topics affecting boards and managers.

7-10-22. We are pleased to announce that attorney Karen St. Onge joined ADAMS|STIRLING. Karen is an experienced HOA attorney advising boards of directors on legal issues they face. Karen also has solid litigation experience with construction defects, personal injury claims, complex torts, toxic torts, and foreclosures. Karen joins our growing San Francisco team of Melissa Ward and Aaron Schwarzkopf.

Partner Melissa Ward presents a diligent look toward the future of associations in light of the Champlain Towers tragedy, to CAI-BayCen on 20220510CAI BayCen has held a series of deep dives into the most important issues raised by the collapse of Champlain Towers South in Florida last summer, providing specific and practical advice for properly identifying, assessing, and remediating building deterioration. Partner Melissa Ward, joined by Dawn Bauman, CAI Governments & Public Affairs, and Clifford Treese of Association Data, Inc., presented virtual Session IV, a diligent look toward the future of associations in light of the Champlain Towers tragedy. They will recapped Sessions I through III. The session was well-attended, and a lot of great information about insurance concerns and legislative trends going forward was provided.

Partner and current CCAL President Laurie Poole, CCAL, together with CAI San Diego Executive Director Carissa Mace, accepted the CAI National 2022 Conference's Membership Engagement Award on behalf of CAI San Diego, which won for its HOA Academy education program. The HOA Academy program teaches homeowner volunteer leaders five key industry subjects: Legal, Maintenance, Bidding and Contracting, Reserves, Finances, and Insurance. Laurie was a co-coordinator of the inaugural HOA Academy. CAI National CEO Tom Skiba and CAI President Jessica Towles also presented the award to fellow HOA Academy coordinators Tim Flanagan and Sue Hawks-McClintic.

Attorney Troy Kennedy was the special guest for Angelo Termite's educational workshop, All about SB 326 ("Balcony Bill"). The hybrid (in-person and virtual) workshop will cover the minimum requirements of SB 326 for HOAs, the penalties for non-compliance, and knowing the current condition of your properties as well as what structural damage you may already have.  The event had a great turnout, a mix of virtual and in-person, manager and board member attendees. Attendees earned 1 CEU from CAMICB/CAI toward CMCA, and nine prizes were awarded!

CAI-OC Outreach Committee, which performs quarterly outreach programs to serve and give back to the community, held a food drive the weekend of March 11-12. On Saturday, volunteers (among them, our Partner, Wayne Louvier, and our Senior Attorney Jennie Vu Park, shown here with fellow Outreach Committee Member Diane Weissberg, Manager of Client Relations at Fiore Racobs & Powers), packed 1,700 boxes of food! The drive benefited the OC Food Bank, a program of Community Action Partnership of Orange County, which unites communities to end hunger and malnutrition. Great work, everyone!

ADAMS|STIRLING Partners Adrian Adams, Laurie Poole and Nathan McGuire present a webinar discussion of new intrusive lender questionnaries on 03022022 at noon3-2-22. as a result of tightening lending standards arising out of the tragic condominium tower collapse in florida last year, adams|stirling has been inundated with requests for help regarding new lender questionnaires asking open-ended questions about deferred maintenance, unsafe conditions, inspections, special assessments, and reserves. for good reasons, boards and managers may be reluctant to answer the questions for fear of incurring potential liability. partners Adrian Adams and Laurie Poole, CCAL, held a webinar discussing whether boards should answer the questions and, if so, how to minimize potential liability. nearly 600 attendees took away a ton of valuable information and insight into an increasingly pressing issue.

The event, brought to you each year by the College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL), as part of its commitment to advancing the knowledge and practice of community association law, was live and in-person with a hybrid component this year. Adrian was joined by Maria Kao of Berding & Weil and Nathan Bettenhausen of Fiore Racobs & Powers in a panel presentation on The Pandemic's Impact on Law Firm Technology: A Brave New World. The very well-received event earned high marks from attendees for a terrific presentation on a fascinating and timely topic.
